My Company

I've decided to start a company at some point in my life. I'm not sure what it will do, who our clientele will be, etc, but I want to start one.

Here are my ideas and my co-workers/friends' ideas for company perks and boosting morale to make for an awesome place to work, let me know if you have any suggestions to add!

1. Jeans on Friday. At least.
2. Volunteer day once a month where you get paid as if you were in the office. This can be for a charity you seek out on your own -- but the company will organize one for staff building.
3. Free bfast and lunch at least once a month, which will be yummy food including drinks, entree, desserts. Bfast will not just be bagels -- but eggs, french toast, fruit, the whole 9
4. Relaxed summer attendance policy -- get out early on some Fridays, have off Fridays entirely in the months of July and August. This doesn't count against vacation.
5. Annual quantitative and qualitative cash bonus directly tied to preset professional goals. Minimum of 1k
6. Participation in Take your pet to work day, Take your daughter/son to work day
7. Wellness program
8. Monthly visit from a personal trainer to help the Wellness program -- yoga, calisthenics, aerobics, etc.
9. Metro or gas reimbursement for driving to work
10. Money reimbursement for biking to work (biking $ needs to be more than gas/metro, to encourage people to help the environment and their own wellness)
11. Early dismissal on first day that the weather gets above 70 and it's not raining out.
12. Day off for Holiday shopping, day off for Home purchasing (Holiday shopping is an assigned day, Home purchasing is taken when you decide, if you aren't purchasing a home you can take it as a regular vacation day)
13. Daycare on site
14. 60/80% work options available, flexible work schedules.
15. Telecommuting options available
16. Off on your Birthday
17. Small gift from the company on your birthday
18. Bday cakes for monthly Bdays
19. $ gift for hitting your 1, 2, 3 year anniversary.
20. Work goal incentives to either earn more money, or get more days off (must be equivalent)
21. Good amount of leave for a having a baby - for both mothers and fathers -- at least 8 weeks paid.
22. Halloween dress up contests
23. Company matches donations employees make to charitable causes
24. Monthly happy hours & receptions (paid for by company)
25. Nice furniture and interior design
26. Healthy snack bar and Smoothie bar
27. In-office manicures, pedicures and massages

Which way do we go, which way do we go?

Been thinking about moving a lot lately, I think I'd like a change of scenery. Here are the places I've come up with that I think I would enjoy living in as much as the DC area:

Boulder, Colorado
Denver, Colorado
Portland, Oregon
Austin, TX
San Diego, CA
San Francisco, CA
Raleigh, NC

I think the California options are out b/c it's more expensive to live there than here! I like Portland but it rains SO much there. Austin, Raleigh and the Colorado options are places I think I would enjoy. Boulder, CO was just named one of the best places to bike in, and given my new hobby, that might just suit me well.

I'd love to live abroad also, but I think that's just not a very easy option at this point in my life. I'm not looking to go back to school and accumulate more debt and I'm not convinced teaching is something I want to invest a lot of time in if it's not what I want to do ultimately. I'd like to work for a cool company that would send me overseas to do work, this way I don't have to become broke.

:)
